Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I wasn’t intending using cycling a vehicle for charity
fundraising this year after the incredibly generous donations made last year for the Brathay 262.

However, recently I heard that a young lady I’ve coached at
cricket for around 7 years has been diagnosed with Cancer, so I have decided to try to do my bit to help by riding in aid of The Christie.

Existing Asthma had flared up from time to time at games and
on one occasion a game was interrupted, while paramedics attended to make sure she was okay, after an attack while bowling on a particularly hot day. Undeterred she was soon back training & playing not long after.

Then along came Covid and this player caught it, and it developed
into Long Covid meaning getting out and about was a challenge never mind bowling off her longish, and energetic run up.

Wanting to stay involved she began keeping score for the
team. Which was done in a typically neat, tidy & diligent way.

Now in the run up to her A Levels the family have received
the news that there is Cancer to contend with too, at this stage the full
extent is still to be established.

Even more unfair, in my mind at least, the issues around
Covid have slowed the process of appointments, check ups & assessment. I say unfair because the girl in question is one of the nicest people you’d want to meet. She is a pleasure to coach and always listened to what was said and would try her hardest to have a go when suggestions for change were made.

Those of you who know me reasonably well will know that in
recent years I have discovered a real passion for cycling. At the risk of
sounding big headed, riding from Manchester to Blackpool is not a big enough challenge to merit asking people to consider aiding with a fundraising effort. Therefore, I have decided to make my ride the Longridge – Manchester – Blackpool – Longridge, a round trip of about 120 miles.

Thank again for taking the time to read this message.
