Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

Dear friends, colleagues & clients,

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

This year, I am swapping flip-flops & shorts for my hiking kit and New Years Eve will be quite different. No sun loungers, cocktails & fireworks on a beach but a tent and a sleeping bag, and hopefully clear skies.

Why am I doing this?

Over the years I have lost friends, colleagues and clients and the father of my very good friend sadly passed away as well - all because of brain tumours.

My friend made me aware of this incredible charity which I decided to support. It is very close to my heart.

Please find below some statistics which demonstrate how much every donation is needed:

Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age.

In the UK alone 16,000 people each year are diagnosed with a brain tumour

Less than 20% of brain tumour patients survive beyond five years of their diagnosis, whereas many other types of cancer now have a 50+% rate of surviving over five years

You may have seen that Paul Daniels, Senators John McCain and Teddy Kennedy and others died of Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM4), a highly aggressive brain tumour which has only a 25% survival rate in the first year, and only 5% survival rate beyond five years; the prognosis has not improved in the last 30 years.

Brain tumours are also the main cause of cancer deaths in children and young people under 40.
But just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Help me to fund research and raise the awareness of this disease so that the chance of survival will increase substantially.

Brain Tumour Research are building a network of experts in sustainable research at dedicated Centres of Excellence whilst influencing the Government and larger cancer charities to invest more nationally

Your support is greatly appreciated. Every Pound, Euro and Dollar will reach this charity. Needless to say that webpage running costs and trip expenses are paid by myself.

Best

Rolf
