During Christian Aid Week this year God challenged me to offer to ride 100 miles in order to be sponsored for Christian Aid. Four rides of 25 miles is a lot for a 73 year old who only casually rides 3 miles into Romsey from Nth Baddesley or 4 into Eastleigh perhaps. I have an old Dawes with 2 buckled wheels, bent handle bars (it was trashed by a very low bridge on the roof of a boat on the Oxford Canal), and pedals where the bearings have worn away, but it does have 18 gears, the highest of which will only propel me at 30mph down hill! The Romsey CA committee suggested I organise an autumn cycle ride where many Romsey people can take part. I am mapping out 4 routes, North, South, East and West from Abbotswood Co-op which will be our convenient meeting point for those who want to ride together. You can do all or part of any route at any time; your choice. But I will publish the dates and times and detailed routes for those who like a group to cycle with. You can offer to lead a group if you are a cyclist who can manage 25 miles easily. My speed is only about 10mph average these days so I will take 2.5 hours. There may be a specific week in October, perhaps the one before half term when many rides will take place, but it will always depend on the weather forecast.
