DID YOU KNOW......
Immediate defibrillation can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
- Around 30,000 people have a cardiac arrest each year outside the confines of a hospital.
- The chance of survival decreases by around 10% for every minute that passes without defibrillation.
- If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6% to 74%.
I didn’t – until very recently.
And this is why I am running my socks off in the hopes of raising the funds needed to install a public-access defibrillator on the site of our Veterinary Practice. This will be available for emergency use by our staff, clients and the local community- including anyone passing us on the main London Road into Brighton. It’s a cause that many of us hold very close to our hearts (definitely no pun intended) after the events of recent months and we would be very touched by any contributions, no matter how small, towards our fundraising goal.
I’ll be completing the Brighton Marathon on 9th April and then three weeks later the Three Forts Challenge also known as ‘The Tough One’ 27 miles of mixed terrain and climbs of 3450ft over Devil’s Dyke, Chanctonbury Ring and Cissbury Ring. I’d be really chuffed if anyone wants to come along and cheer me on. And don’t worry, the buggy is definitely staying at home!
