Story

Mambo?! Poa!

Hello dear people,

There are no words to thank you for your generosity. I am truly breath taken, not unlike when I literally could not breathe at the top of the mountain due to lack of oxygen. After the most difficult and most exhilarating few days of my life, I am over the moon to report that I made it to the Summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m!!!) much to my disbelief. After six days of trekking through varied terrain, with headaches and sickness in toe, we woke up at 11pm with only a head torch to guide us up the zig zag path. It looked like a hundred twinkly stars were dancing up the mountain. And the cold... now, I am always cold but oh boy, I can not describe to you the cold. Let’s just say 8 jumpers, 4 pairs of trousers and 3 hats was not enough. I risked losing my hands to quickly gobble down a jelly baby. (Worth it though.)

I want to thank each and everyone of you for your donations, support, kind words and friendship and I encourage you to set yourself a challenge and give it a whirl because wow, it might just change your life! What a journey of self discovery, endurance and self acceptance.

Thank you to the true heroes and soldiers of Kili, the porters, chefs, and guides who do this every day. You are amazing, I take my three hats off to you and I trust you with my life.

Here is the song they sang to us at the end:

Jambo, jambo Bwana (Hello, hello Sir)
Habari gani (How are you?)
Mzuri sana (Very fine)
Wageni, mwakaribishwa (Foreigners, you’re welcome)
Kilimanjaro, hakuna matata (Kilimanjaro, there is no problem)

Tembea pole pole, hakuna matata (Walk slowly, slowly, no problem)
Utafika salama, hakuna matata (You’ll get there safe, no problem)
Kunywa maji mengi, hakuna matata (Drink plenty of water, no problem)

Asante sana you wonderful people,

Love,

Ro xXx
