Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for my charity skydive in aid of Gift of Sight on 21st May 2017.
When I was 20, I fell ill and lost part of my sight. I live every day with a rare disease called acute macular neuroretinopathy. Theres no cure and no treatment. Since being diagnosed, I've graduated with an English degree, I've travelled across the world and I've found my self confidence again.
Anyone with any sight condition can tell you how debilitating life can be. It definitely hit me hard. But with an amazing family and such supportive friends, I picked myself up, carried on and I'm happier now than I ever thought I'd be 4 years ago.
I'm raising money for Gift of Sight. They're a great charity, based at Southampton University Hospital where I get my check ups and are dedicated to finding cures for some major and common eye conditions. You can find out more about the incredible work they do on their website: https://www.giftofsight.org.uk/about-us
As my grandpa has recently been diagnosed with glaucoma, this is a charity whose research is closest to my heart. You might be thinking, 'but he's your grandpa, he's older. I'm years off anything like that'. But the reality is that it can happen to anyone at any time; I'm certainly testimony to that! I know that, in raising money, I won't be cured, but others will definitely benefit and hopefully won't have to face what I have had to come through. But, for someone who now chooses to live every day with as much joy as they can, I want to show everyone that it doesn't matter what condition, disability or issue you may have, it's never too late to do something amazing!
