Story

I’m running an ultramarathon in September.

No fancy training, no backing down. Just me, this event, and 100km (62.14 miles).

I’m hoping to raise some cash for The Firefighters Charity. Last year I broke my wrist and hand.

At first it didn’t seem too serious, but three months into my recovery and things got a bit tricky. Surgery was the next logical step.

This meant an even longer recovery timeframe – and the possibility of being put on half pay.

There were no guarantees about regaining full functionality and strength to my wrist either.

Don’t get me wrong, my arm wasn’t falling off. I wasn’t about to drop dead. I’m not trying to paint an end-of-the world picture here. But it was stressful. I didn’t know if it would heal or if I could do the job again. And I didn’t know what the right thing to do was.

Up step The Firefighters Charity, who recommended I stay at one of their centres for an intense programme of personalised rehabilitation.

Their world-class facilities, physiotherapy, and recovery plans did the trick without the need to go under the knife. They did this and so much more.

I’m still in shock that such efforts have been made for me. If you can spare a few quid, it would be appreciated and put to good use.
