Story

Since this is my first and possibly last marathon I have decided to try to raise some money for charity while I'm at it. My charity of choice is Headway-the brain injury association. The reason for this choice is because of a history of brain injuries in my family which gave me some of my first real experiences of real sadness in the family. Firstly, my uncle was badly brain damaged following a car accident which has had a dramatic effect on his life. Not long after, my Grandmother suffered a brain aneurysm which ultimately led to her passing away because of it which was 20 years ago in January this year. Finally, my father suffered a similar brain aneurysm on 10th September 2001 which almost also took his life and although he has now almost made a full recovery, this very nearly devastated our family. Therefore the work which Headway do in researching brain injuries, working to prevent, diagnose and treat them as well as rehabilitating is important to me and my family.
