Story
Mary Hare School is a non-maintained special school providing for profoundly and severely deaf children from all over the UK.They believe that ALL deaf children should receive the eduction and support which will enable them to achieve their full potential at home, school and in their subsequent careers.
This is a very personal charity to me as I have a severely deaf son who attends the school. At the late age of 2 years he was diagnosed profoundly deaf. He was even too deaf for hearing aids. We took the decision to give him bilateral cochlear implants. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who cannot hear. He still is profoundly deaf but now can access hearing with the device on.
Unable to talk or even say his long name, "Willoughby" we fought to get him into Mary Hare Deaf School. As it is a charity school, local Boroughs will fund some children but the rest depend on charity fund raising.
Three years on Willoughby is thriving, talking so clearly and with such confidence. Mary Hare School has been a life changer for him and has set him up to face the future and achieve his dream.
Please dig in your pockets and give generously to this amazing school. It really does change lives for these young children as Willoughby is living proof.
