Story

Rupert is just about to celebrate his 8th birthday, a day that at one stage we never thought we would see as Rupert was born with undiagnosed heart defects which without surgical intervention meant he would never have made 1 month old. To see Rupert now you wouldn't realise he has anything wrong (we regularly forget) but he already endured 4 big open heart operations in his short life and now is the proud owner of a human donor heart value. Fortunately he is currently stable and is an active happy little boy just getting on with life. We know that his future will involve more surgical challenges but for now we are just extremely grateful for the care and support BCH have provided to let him live his best life - which he does to the full!  Without their skill, dedication and care Rupert would not be here. They will always be hero's to us and although we can never come close to showing them how grateful we are every so often we try by doing some fund raising in the hope we can help another child have a happy outcome.

Our last fundraiser was in 2019 so we think its time to try again with an even bigger challenge! I am a big believer that if I am going to ask you for money it has to be a real challenge and I can safety say this will really push me. In July will be attempting to ride the coast to coast in 1 day. 150 miles from Seascale to Whitby over the high Lake district passes, the Yorkshire dales and finally the North York Moors which should be just over 4000m of climbing. If things go well I anticipate if should take me about 12 hours of peddling! I have been in training since January for this and completed just over 1500 miles so far this year however my longest ride on a bike remains 100 miles  - so just another 50% to add on then! This will be a tough challenge, but I will fight and dig in just like my superstar little boy has done repeatedly. He is my inspiration and the reason I will pedal on until i finish or fall off trying!

If you able and you you would like to support my latest crazy challenge I would be immensely grateful of a few pounds for BCH. If money is tight, a message of support is equally welcome.

About the charity

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.
