Story

My name is Daniel and this is my family's just giving page. I have been married to my wife Kyra since 2006 and we have 4 children Ellie, Grace, Oliver and Noah.

I was born with cystic hygroma and hemangioma resulting in me having a tracheostomy. My first year was spent in hospital only having the odd day out with my parents; childhood years were spent in and out of hospitals having various test and major operations trying to improve my way of life and to control my cystic hygroma.

My parents were a great support growing up, taking me to my appointments , staying with me for weeks in hospital , trying to keep my life as normal as possible and many other things! All this while trying to raise my other brothers and sisters, traveling to and from appointments on the bus or train as we didn't have a car and my Dad going from job to job as he was let go on several occasions because he missed work due to my appointments/illnesses.

Now I am in my late twenty's and feel so lucky with what I have, after a rocky start to my life with my chance of pulling trough some of my treatments slim, constant bullying/name calling and at some points a chance of a normal life fading away. Today I still have regular checkups and an annual operation to control my hemangioma also Doctor appointments are frequent as my cystic hygroma is prone to bleeds causing infection in my face, My hemangioma causes my mouth to also bleed constantly throughout the day causing it to swell making me reliant on my tracheostomy to breath.

But now I ignore the bullies , deal with the fact my conditions are not going anywhere and concentrate on the positives, happily married , 4 amazing children , a job that I love, wasn't the boy who stayed hidden in his room and realise that my life isn’t perfect but its mine!

My family and I have set up this page to raise money for GOS hospital. They looked after me when I was a child after a key operation and without them I know my parents would have been lost. Now I have a family of my own I want to teach my children about helping others, fundraising as a family to give back and hopefully make a difference along the way. We have started with a target of £1000 as it’s our first attempt and new to this! We all have our own ideas on how to raise money and we will be updating our page to keep you up to speed.
