In June of this year my 35 year old sister in law was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.
Already the journey has felt so long and although the 6 hour long brain surgery to remove the tumour was carried out successfully, she still has an even longer journey ahead. Two months of radiotherapy and a further 9 rounds of chemotherapy is what’s to come for her in the very near future and even after that we know that the tumour will still return.
To say this has shook our family’s world is an understatement.
Here are some interesting Brain Cancer Facts and Statistics that have blown my mind…
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.
Brain tumours reduce life expectancy by on average 27 years – the highest of any cancer.
Just 12% of adults survive for five years after diagnosis.
Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours.
A group of my closest friends and I will be tackling the 3 Peak Challenge in order to help raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity because, every single penny helps these incredible researchers to prolong the life and potentially cure Brain Cancer patients.
I hope you’ll help us by donating and giving what you can to help this incredible charity.
