Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Story

My
name is David Burnett and to all intent and purpose I am just an
ordinary guy that is about to embark on his second battle with the
dreaded cancer. I was diagnosed in January 2013 with aggressive form of
prostate cancer and was told because it was the aggressive strain an
operation was out of the question and that the only treatment that was
on offer was radiotherapy of which I underwent 37 treatments on a 5 on 2
off basis at the Walsgrave hospital in Coventry the treatment started
in July 2013 and finished in September. In November 2013 I was told ,
after a routine blood test, that cancer was no longer evident in my body
and to go away and live the rest of my life. I was routinely checked by
blood test and on every occasion was told everything was fine until
November of 2016 when suddenly my PSA level started to rise again a sign
that the cancer had re-emerged again this time the hospital tried to
calm it down again with hormone treatment that didn't work. I had a full
body MRI scan to determine where the cancer was migrating to, I am told
it is either the bones or brain it goes for, in my case the scan
revealed I have deposits in several places throughout my body ,the ribs ,
the spine, the pelvis to name some. The treatment I am being offered
this time is chemotherapy as it has a good chance of halting the spread
of the disease and extending my stay on this earth. I have to undergo 1
treatment every three weeks for thirty weeks and some of the side
effects of this drug are not pleasant still me being an ugly bastard to
start with can't see that it will bother me too much fingers crossed. My
life was turned upside down in 2013 and forced me into selling a
successful little business I had nurtured for 21 years and sent me down
the path of teaching in various different colleges and teaching
institutions and I have been privileged to meet a whole new set of
friends some of which I know I can count on too take the piss when my
hair falls out or take me for a beer when I am feeling like shit cos
that's what mates do. I promise that the picture that is attached has
not been airbrushed in any way whatsoever I am that ugly.
                        Best Regards
                             Dave
