Story

***UPDATE***

With the support of all of you, we are pleased to announce Paramjeet Singh has arrived back home on 13/02/2016.

Please logon to www.SikhRelief.org for more information.

All donations will now be spread amongst the other projects by Sikh Relief.

Paramjeet Singh arrived in the UK in 1999 and in 2000 was granted asylum. Paramjeet Singh was subsequently granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK and his four children all hold British passports.

The UK government granted Paramjeet with asylum as officials agreed his life was in danger. His brother had previously been tortured whilst in police custody and was subsequently murdered in a case which remains unsolved.

Paramjeet arrived in Portugal on 17th December 2015 for a family holiday and was arrested by Interpol the following day. He has appeared in court twice and is represented by Portuguese Advocate, Manuel Luis Ferreira. It is understood the request from the Indian authorities is to extradite him to India on alleged claims of his involvement in the murder of Rulda Singh in 2009. This claim has already been investigated in an 11 month joint investigation between Indian and British police in 2010 and no evidence was found to justify any further action.

This page has been set up for fundraising to support Paramjeet Singh's family with costs related to his fight against extradition including legal fees in Portugal. Any funds raised in addition to this will be absorbed into Sikh Relief's main account for its project in India supporting prisoners and their families.
