Story

Most of you know our story but for those of you who don't know, here's why we do this…………….

Frankie Says Relax started in October 2011 just 1 month after our second son Frankie left hospital. He was born prematurely due to complications during pregnancy and spent time in NICU at the Luton  and Dunstable Hospital. We felt we had to give something back, so as a family of then 4, took part in our first event, a 2K family run, we called  ourselves team Frankie Says Relax because the NICU staff had mentioned how chilled Frankie was during his time in NICU. We raised over £1300 in 3 weeks and decided that we would love to pay back the cost of Frankie's treatment, but it would take time, and help.

The following year we took part in another running event and was amazed by the support of our family and friends who got on board. We put together a whole team of 23 runners and raised nearly another £2500.

We have continued to take party in various races to fund raise every year since, with the exception of last year when I had my third son……………who amazingly was a full term healthy baby.

After a year off we wanted to come back with a bang so this year's challenge is the Great North Run, another gruelling 13.1 mile halfMarathon.

Our Amazing team of five have all been part of team Frankie Says Relax over the years, running various events to raise money but most of them have never run further then 10K and three out of five of us had babies last year, so it’s a pretty epic challenge.

In addition to our run, my cousin Lucy, who has been a massive part of team Frankie Says Relax over the years, and is currently half way across the world travelling, has decided to take part in the Queenstown international half marathon in New Zealand. This is even more amazing as she is doing all the training on her own. This is on the 19th November, 2 days after world prematurity day.

Frankie’s treatment cost over £21,000 and he was only in for 18days, some babies’ needs months of treatment. So far we have raised almost £12,000 including gift aid, all of which has gone towards helping other sick babies and their families at a desperate time in their lives.

The L & D NICU is a wonderful facility and we are lucky it’s on our door step here in Luton. They offer the highest level of neonatal intensive care possible and are one of only three high-level neonatal units in the East of England.

Please give anything you can to help us get ever closer to our target, once we hit the £20,000 mark we will be having a huge party to celebrate NICU, all the beautiful NICU babies,  the achievements of the team and raise that all important last £1000.

There is no gift more precious than Life and NICU simply givesbabies a chance to have one!
