Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit this page!
I'm taking part in a 24 hour trekking challenge across the Scottish Highlands (starting in Pitlochry) in September 2019. It will be approx 50km/ 40 miles long depending on the pace of the group.
I've had a pretty tough time over the past few years with anxiety, depression, all stemming from Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). I've struggled with many aspects of daily life such as getting up, getting dressed, showering, keeping things clean and tidy, leaving the house and many more. I've struggled to stay in work and not run away to the toilets in tears if something small and unexplainable has set me off.
While I've been going through this, I've received incredible support from my friends and family. They've made me smile, held me as I cried, bailed me out financially, cleaned my house, stood by me when I've treated them terribly and supported me to seek help. I was lucky enough to be able to tell them when I've had suicidal thoughts. They took time off work to keep me safe, gave me a dog and listened to me without judgement, which made everything OK again.
I'm incredibly lucky to have fantastic support networks, a great therapist, a GP who listens and people who will be there when things aren't quite hunky dory. Most people do not have this.
I'm fundraising for Mind as they've got the mantra 'we won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect'. I received this and knowing Mind were around the corner and truly 'get it' provided massive relief.
I'm doing a 24 hour hike across the Scottish Highlands as it feels appropriately nuts. I love hiking and being in the countryside but I also love sleep so this will be a true challenge! My beautiful dog Reuben looks forward to helping me train for this.
Any support would be very gratefully received!
