Sams Snowdon walk

Snowden · 14 March 2020
Hi everyone
So I’ve set myself a challenge I am determined to complete, as many of you know I suffer with a genetic life threatening illness cystic fibrosis, I was diagnosed at 5 & from the minute my mum gave me my first lot of mediation I took it on the chin like it was nothing and have continued with this attitude my whole life (what dosnt kill you makes you stronger right?) I work hard running my own business whilst bringing up my beautiful daughter Abi-Rose to give her everything I can, When I turned 18 I then transferred to the care of the cystic fibrosis adult unit at wythenshaw hospital where I have always received the upmost amazing care from all the doctors, nurses physios & all the other staff there, nothing is too much trouble, cystic fibrosis and means 2-3 weeks in hospital at a time For intravenous antibiotics this is really hard for me to be without Abi & my fiancé Andy but the staff on the ward make my stay more bearable and I want to give something back to say a big thank you for everything they have done for me over the last 15 years
Last year my lung funtion dropped to 33% & my weight went down to 6stone 8, I was in hospital for 3 weeks and have a feeding Tube placement, when I was lay in my hospital bed said to myself
“I want to climb Snowden” Even though at this point I couldn’t even talk without feeling breathless, but I was determined
We set the date for 27th Oct but unfortunately I had a hemopstysis so I put this off and excepted I’d never be able to climb a mountain.
Then In December last year a new amazing drug became available on the nhs changing the mutation that causes cf this new drug makes our mucus less sticky helping us to breathe better and have a better quality of life
After a month my lung funtion has gone up to 46% I’ve been back in the gym walking and even running, I thought “I can now do Snowden” so set a date
MY BIRTHDAY
On the 14th March With a little army behind me I will do this!
I’ve been training hard for this and for the first time in my life I feel like I can breathe and I feel amazing.
All donations will go straight to the adult cystic fibrosis unit
Thank you
Sam x
