Story
- On 31st October 2005 my life was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was 38, alone and miles away from home. Somehow, and I don't know how exactly, the very next day I packed my little KA with as much as I could of my belongings and travelled 300 miles back to my home town to be with my mum. With the support of family and friends my journey began. To suddenly lose control over what was happening to my body was terrifying but the day to day help and support I received from Breast Cancer Care was the best I could wish for. After discovering the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes and that I was also HER2 positive, I underwent an operation, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and Herceptin for a period of 2 years - gruelling treatment and side effects, dark days and depression. Eventually over time my life started to become my own again. Breast Cancer Care was there for me from day one and for a total of 10 years was part of my life. I know now that if ever I need to talk to someone or seek advice, they are still there for me now.
- There are many people who go through breast cancer - men as well as women. For all them, including those I care for, family and friends who have been affected, I am going to try my hardest to complete the London Marathon in 2018 and hopefully give back something to the Breast Cancer Care team who cared for me.
