Story
Our grandad (Jim Hindmarsh) was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in December 2017. Despite all his efforts going through the gruelling treatment this time, the cancer would just not be beat. The cancer won and our hero, our grandad, was sadly taken from us on 8th May 2019.
He spent the final 5 weeks of his life at St Oswalds Hospice in Gosforth. Although he so didn’t want to die, he often said he couldn’t believe he was lucky enough to be there. The love, care and compassion shown by all the staff was truly amazing - they really are angels in disguise! This not only extended to him, but also to our grandma (by putting a bed for her in his room, which meant she was able to stay with him the entire time), but also to us, his grandchildren. We were welcomed there and made to feel at home. We were able to celebrate our birthdays with our grandad for the very last time. St Oswalds and all the staff there, allowed us to make the best of a very bad situation and to make memories that we will cherish forever!
It is our wish to raise as much money as possible to help St Oswald’s continue to help other families who are struggling to care for their loved ones through cancer.
