Charcot-Marie-Tooth UK (formerly CMT United Kingdom) is the national support group for people affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, aka Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy. We provide advice, support and information for people with the condition, family, carers and medical professionals.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Ella and Emily have recently been diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth Diesase (CMT). CMT is a condition that affects the nerves in their legs and arms.

CMT affects the peripheral nerves, so Ella and Emily experience motor problems as their nerves fail to respond properly, causing weakness and wasting in their muscles and numbness/sensory problems. Chronic fatigue is also a problem for them both.

About 25,000 people in the UK suffer from CMT and two of the most precious people in my life make up that 25,000.  I see how the most easiest of daily tasks can be a struggle and how tiring a day can quickly become for Ella and Emily. Even in the short time I have been undertaking this challenged I have seen a deterioration in their condition.

Now anyone who knows me knows that physical exercise has never been in my top 10 of things to do, not sure it even hit the top 50!  So I have set myself a challenge, that will test my determination and will power.  Every month I plan to swim 15km and cycle 50km.  I will do this for a whole year. I am also taking part in the British Gas Open Water Swim and the Tour de Tendring. Watching the determination that both Ella and Emily have to get on with life and not let CMT control them has inspired me to do something.

There is no cure for CMT. Thats why I are raising money for CMT UK.  This charity has been a vital source of information and support to us whilst we all learn to live with CMT.  It is so difficult to try and get any help as the disease is so rare and resources even within the NHS are limited.

Your support and donations will help me get my goggles on and swim, especially on those days when I know I would rather be curled up on the sofa!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you,

Sarah, Ella and Emily x
