Story
On 2nd August 2016 our daughter, Sofia, was born, stillborn, at full term. It sounds like a cliché but, it is true, our lives have never been the same since. And to say that it was all awful and we will never recover in some ways feels true; but it hasn't all been awful, there are moments of hope still, of joy when we think of our daughter, that she ever existed at all. As beautiful and perfect as she was. Those 9 months where she lived. So this event is one where we want to harness some of that. A chance to
think of her with joy, 'taking her up a mountain', pushing through the pain and showing her a (hopefully!) beautiful view when we reach the summit.
My friends and I are climbing two mountains in the Lake District in August to carry our memories up a mountain, whilst doing this we would like to raise some money for one of the charities which is working tirelessly to try to help reduce stillbirth rates in the UK (which still has one of the highest rates in the developed world - 9 babies are stillborn every day).
MAMA Academy was founded by Heidi Eldridge whose son was also stillborn at 36 weeks. Heidi helped an awful lot in that first year afterwards, answering endless questions and talking us through how to survive. We would like to contribute to aiming to reduce stillbirth rates next year by helping to raise money for 'Wellbeing Wallets' which are given to expectant Mum's to help empower them with the most up-to-date information.
Please help us to raise some money for this worthwhile cause and to increase awareness of stillbirth so that ultimately we can help to save babies lives.
