Thames Path Challenge 2019 · 7 September 2019 to 8 September 2019 ·

Open Hands provides emergency food, toiletries, clothing and furniture to those going without. We also deliver skills training courses, mentoring and advice services to support individuals in moving forward in life.

Story

Three years ago I started walking 5 miles every day to keep fit. I have stuck with it ever since, to everyone's amazement. So when I saw the Thames Path Challenge advertised it seemed like a great new challenge - 50k in one day! So I signed up, and decided that while I'm at it I might as well raise money for a good cause! I chose Open Hands.

Open Hands do great work in Leicester. They feed the hungry via their Tuesday night pie night (thanks Pukka Pies!) and a food bank. They provide clothes and household items for those in need. They can deliver furniture to those that need it. They run self esteem courses, and mentoring schemes to help people back into work. They run English classes for non English speakers.

They receive some funding, but most of what they do relies on donations from individuals and companies.

If you feel you can help support Open Hands please sponsor me on this challenge - and if you are having a clear out of clothes, household items or furniture, why not consider giving your unwanted items to help others.
