Story
This year 20 years ago I was given the all clear from Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It seems a long time ago but the memories are still as clear as day. I shudder when I think about the journey and what my body was put through to overcome not one but two cancer diagnoses... but with the support of my friends, family and the amazing nurses, consultants and all within the NHS I made it out the other side... alive!
I didn't want the year to pass without doing something to celebrate that I'm still here to tell the tale. A holiday to an exotic island might have been a slightly more relaxing way to celebrate but I wanted a challenge, something that would push my mind and body...then came the idea of the Lakeland50!! After years of supporting Andy around the course I decided it was time to have a go. I convinced my friend Beth to join me and together we embarked on training. I am petrified, it won't be easy but we will do our best and hopefully we will have some fun and create some happy memories on the way round.
The course is 50 miles across the Lake District, has nearly 10,000ft of climb and we have 24hrs to complete it.
This is a challenge to stick two fingers up to cancer and show how far I've come. I was an adult when I was diagnosed but as a mum I can't imagine how hard it is for children to go through this. Therefore I'd love to raise some money to support those little ones who have been diagnosed with Cancer and I can also show that there is life on the other side.
Please do help give a little to this wonderful charity.
At Children with Cancer UK we actively raise and invest money for vital specialist research to save the lives of every child with cancer and keep their family together. Our vision is a world where every child diagnosed with cancer gets to ring their end of cancer treatment bell.
