Lizzie was born in Leeds General Infirmary on 27th March. Minutes after her birth she was rushed into intensive care as she had stopped breathing. It was found that she had a condition called Choanal Atresia and the  ENT surgeons operated to correct this when she was 2 days old. She remained in the Neo-Natal Unit for several weeks and had more procedures to help her breathing. Doctors also noticed that she was pale and jaundiced and through testing she was discovered to have a form of haemolytic anaemia. We were referred to the Paediatric Haematology department in Leeds where she was monitored and given blood transfusions to keep her well.

Lizzie had a tough few years with many hospital appointments and further operations including one to remove her gall bladder when she was 7 as her anaemia had caused agonising gall stones. 

Lizzie also has development delay and Autism so was given community health support from a range of therapists  to help her to learn to walk and talk. With this help she has been able to attend school and take part in lots of activities such as dance and scouts. 

Lizzie is still under the care of Leeds Children’s Hospital where she has regular check-ups. She decided she wanted to fundraise for the hospital to help other children. The  parks challenge presented the perfect opportunity to do this.  Lizzie will complete a series of 10 - 5km runs and walks in a Leeds Park, completing the challenge on her 14th birthday, the 27th March.  Her health conditions and nervousness of dogs mean this will be a real challenge for her but she is determined to complete the challenge to raise money for the charity.
