Sarah's Running The Welsh Coast Path

Running The Welsh Coast Path · 11 October 2016
Hi!
Thank you for visiting my page.
I have now completed the Wales Coast path and broke the record by 16days, running the entire length in 24 days.
In light of such unimaginable conditions in Syria and Iraq, this page will remain open throughout the Christmas period into January. Please don't turn a blind eye.
On October 11th, I am setting off from the most northern point of the Welsh coast path and running the entire length of it to raise money and awareness for an incredible charity, whilst pushing myself into new physical challenges and tests of will power.
The Path - The path runs from Chester to Chepstow and is 870miles/1400km long with around 95,781ft of elevation. That's an equivalent of running over 33 back to back marathons whilst summiting Kilimanjaro 60times!
Time Scale - At current, the fastest known time of someone running the path is 40 days. I will be attempting to do it in 30 days.
How is it being supported? - During the race I will be staying in a tent and cooking over fire/stove, my my own route decisions and carrying all kit on my back. In light of this, it will be mainly self supported, however, I will have friends and family meeting me at certain check points on the way to restock food and provide some much needed company!
I also have some great sponsors on board that have helped with the lead up in terms of kit and planning. A special thanks goes to 'YOMP' for huge amounts of support with kit and planning. 'Mobile solar charges' for helping me find a way to stay safe with comms and allow you guys o keep up to date with where I am and how it's going. 'Solo stove' for providing a way to cook on route and 'Beyond the beaten track' and 'Expedition foods' for providing ration packed food to fuel my way round. All information on sponsors can be found on my website.
Why Wales? - Starting in mid October, i'm expecting some pretty savage weather conditions. As beautiful as Wales is, I didn't want an easy challenge. I wanted to be pushed way out of my comfort zone and be put in a position where I will have to work hard to keep going. The distance and weather is going to be tough work, but with ShelterBox in mind, I can be assured that what people are going through in warzones and disaster areas is far worse. I'm taking myself to a place of discomfort to try and become a big part of relieving the discomfort of others.
Why ShelterBox? - Not only is ShetlerBox based right next to where I live in Cornwall, but it's also one of the most vital support systems in place at this current time.
"Right now, around 60 million people around the world have been made homeless by natural disaster and conflict. We're working to change this. By providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster, we're transforming despair into hope."
As well as fundraising for ShelterBox, I will be volunteering to prepare the boxes and training to deliver these boxes to disaster zones.
