Channel Swim Relay · 15 July 2017

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Hello :)

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

You may have heard on the grapevine that I will be swimming the Channel this summer... And yes, it is just as bonkers as it sounds! My tide starts on Saturday 15 July and we could be called down to Dover anytime that week. Once called I will be braving cold water and dodging jellyfish, not to mention the odd tanker, to swim a minimum of 33km to France with my relay team.

And it’s all for a very good cause…

My team (shout out to Team Porpoise!) and I are raising money for Aspire, the national Spinal Injury charity. Did you know that every eight hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury? The money we raise will help Aspire continue to offer practical support to the 40,000 people living with a spinal cord injury in the UK and enable them to lead independent lives.

So what exactly does the swim consist of?!

The challenge is to swim from Dover to Cap Gris Nez, through one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes… The shortest distance as the crow flies from England to France is 21 miles, but this is wishful thinking, as the tides will take us off course and we will swim more of an ‘S’ shape. Our 6 person relay team (standard swimsuits only, no wetsuits allowed) will take approximately 12 – 15 hours (one hour per person) to complete the one-way journey, depending on weather conditions...

Any donations would be most gratefully received. I’ll add more information (and details about my training) to my fundraising page … So stay tuned!

Thank you very much in advance :)
