Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October 2019, I will be joining an all-female team to hike 100km through Kenya's remote Matthew's Range in support of Conservation International's (CI) work in Northern Kenya.

CI seeks to break the cycle of destruction of natural capital by contributing to a new development paradigm where growth embraces nature and where nature is valued, protected and managed for the benefit of human well being.

Funds raised will be used to benefit local communities, to give them a voice and provide a platform for their development of sustainable enterprises and family livelihoods.

Each participant in this expedition is paying for her own flights / accommodation / food so that every dollar raised will do directly to CI's conservation programmes.

Below are some examples of what your donations will go towards:

  • a girl's school bursary for a month - US$83
  • a female elephant keeper's salary for a month - US$230
  • a female ranger's salary for a month - US$241
  • two-day beadwork training workshop for 30 women - US$550

Please donate generously as every dollar counts towards empowering local communities who will work towards preserving Northern Kenya's beautiful land and species.

About the charity

We know that human beings are totally dependent on nature — and that by saving nature, we’re saving ourselves. To that end, CI is helping to build a healthier, more prosperous and more productive planet. We do this through science, policy, and partnerships with countries, communities and companies. Over the years, CI has helped support 1,200 protected areas and interventions across 77 countries, safeguarding more than 601 million hectares of land, marine and coastal areas. Our work is moving entire societies toward a healthier, more sustainable development path — so that we don’t use up today what we’re going to need tomorrow. At CI, we don’t focus on one sector or one issue. And we’re not interested in short-term fixes. Instead, building upon a foundation of science, partnership and field work, we find global solutions to global problems. We measure success in human terms. Our ultimate goal is to protect the most fundamental things that nature provides to all of us: our food, our fresh water, our livelihoods and a stable climate. Nature doesn’t need people - people need nature.
