Story
Benjamin was diagnosed with leukemia on the 11/04/2023. He had been unwell on his holidays and went to the doctors the morning he flew back. The doctors referred us to the panda unit at Salford royal. After some test we were told Benjamin had Leukemia (ALL). We were then transferred to Manchester Royal children's hospital. Once there we were told they needed to act fast and start the chemo treatment within the next 24 hrs. Further test shown that Benjamin had fluid on his lungs and heart and that the best thing would be to be transferred to Alder hey children's hospital in Liverpool. Benjamin was really poorly at this point and on HDU in Liverpool. It got to the point they wanted to take Benjamin into theater to drain the fluid and this could cause other issues. One doctor went against all the others and said in his opinion it shouldn't be drained and to keep going with the chemo to get the leukemia mass down in his chest and the fluid will drain naturally. Everyone went with this one doctor and he was 100% right. So once the fluid was in a safe and stable condition we got back to ward86 in Manchester royal. The treatment has been very intense but is working and the level of cancer is very low at this stage. Throughout all this Benjamin has been so brave & strong and took it all in his stride. There has been lots of ups and downs but he's still smiling
