Story
Firstly, thank you for visiting my justgiving page.
In what my family and friends consider a momentary lapse of sanity, I am running my first ever marathon in the Sahara, the Marathon des Sables (MdS) billed as "the toughest footrace on Earth". It is a 160-mile ultra-marathon, run over 6 days in the sweltering Sahara Desert. I will journey through numerous terrains, sand dunes, salt flats, mountains and rock with snakes and scorpions to keep me company at night. It’s basically like journeying through Mordor but at 50 degrees and the Orcs I’ll see will be the result of hallucinations triggered by the punishing terrain and heat. Seems impossible but I’m the kind of person who likes to treat everyday like I'm running a marathon tomorrow... rest a lot and load up on carbs. Jokes aside as the great Nelson Mandela once said “It always seems impossible until it’s done” and by channelling my inner Luke Skywalker, I will do and not just try.
My aim is to raise £1500 amount for a fantastic charity close to my heart, The Children’s Bereavement Centre, which is a unique and special charity who offer children and families affected by terminal illness, death or the divorce or separation of a child’s parents, the support and guidance that they need during a very difficult time in their lives.
Please donate as little or as much as you can to support the CBC, which in turn also motivates me on those long and challenging runs! I don't think I realised just how tough and gruelling training to run for this marathon would be... or how much it would take over my life but this will potentially be a life changing experience that I can look back on when I’m so old that the only thing hip about me will be my hip replacement - guaranteed to be needed after I finish this marathon.
I’m really looking forward to the challenge and I appreciate everyone's support. I hope to raise as much funds as possible for this amazing charity who are helping nearly 600 children and their families each year to cope with their loss and move forward.
As we slowly move through this pandemic, charities like the Children's Bereavement Centre desperately need our support, so they might continue to help those children and their families also affected by the pandemic and who need these services now more than ever.
Thanks again, Sean.
