Dinnie Stone Lift · 16 November 2018
On Friday 16th November, 6 men will each attempt to lift the famous Dinnie Stones in aid of the My Name'5 Doddie foundation at Potarch, Aberdeenshire.
Legend goes for the Dinnie Stones, in the 1830’s, metal handles were attached to two large boulders, which were used as counterweights for the maintenance of the Potarch bridge.
The lift is a combined weight of 332.49kg (733 pounds, 52.28 stones) and each member will attempt to lift this weight with their bare hands (unassisted). The small stone weighs 144.47kg and the larger stone weighs 188.02kg. These must be lifted simultaneously if a successful lift is to be achieved.
Just eighty eight individuals have lifted them since their rediscovery in 1953. http://www.thedinniestones.com/
We are hoping to raise money for this fantastic organisation.
Doddie was diagnosed with MND in June 2017. In November 2017 he set up the foundation with two simple aims:
1. Raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential causes.
2. To make grants to individuals suffering from MND, to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.
Doddie earned 61 caps for Scotland and won championships with Melrose and Newcastle Falcons. He was also part of the successful 1997 Lions tour of South Africa.
