We raise SUDEP & epilepsy risks awareness to prevent deaths & support those bereaved

Story

I have now completed the 10K run in a time of 50:24. I am pleased with this as I have knocked 3:55 off of last years time. Thanks everyone who sponsored me, I never imagined to raise this much - it's clear how much Tim is missed and fondly remembered. Thanks again, Sharon.

Ten years ago I lost my boyfriend suddenly to SUDEP. Tim died in his sleep having an epileptic seizure. Other than his epilepsy Tim was a fit and healthy 27 year old who had been at work and socialising with friends just hours before his death. SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy Patients) is also known as 'death in the shadows' as there is very little awareness or warning given to patients and their families that their epilepsy could kill them. Too often friends and relatives are left with the terrible shock of losing their loved one to a condition they simply didn't know was life threatening.

Epilepsy Bereaved is the leading voluntary organisation working to prevent unnecessary deaths from SUDEP. The risks of SUDEP and other epilepsy deaths are still not fully acknowledged. This means that people with epilepsy are still at risk of dying suddenly, prematurely and unnecessarily. Without Epilepsy Bereaved, awareness of SUDEP and epilepsy related deaths would be minimal.

Epilepsy Bereaved is dedicated to the prevention of SUDEP and other epilepsy related deaths. The charity is the only one dedicated to the support and enablement of those bereaved in this way. This essential service breaks the isolation that families and friends experience following SUDEP.

It will be Tim's 10th anniversary on 24 November 2010. I will be running in the Brooks Brighton 10K on 21 November in his memory. My aim is to beat last year's time of 54:19. Please sponsor me and help me raise money for this charity.
