Back in the 1960s my dad and his first wife lost their first baby, Caron, just hours after she was born. They were told she was too tiny to live and they went through the heartbreak of losing a child. 

Since then a lot has changed but there are still many pregnant women who never get to take their babies home. Sands formed in 1978 by bereaved parents when there were no answers or support. 

Sands’ vision is for a world where fewer babies die and when a baby dies anyone affected by the death receives the best care and support for as long as they need.

I signed up to do the Derby half marathon in October - exactly 12 years since I took home my healthy baby boy. I know how fortunate I am and I refuse to take that for granted. Hopefully my efforts will help Sands continue the great work they do and raise awareness of their cause!
