Ok, so have just received a message stating: "Extra cash for your charity. Me thinks you should auction off your riding gear after you have completed the event. 1st dibbs please, from *will not elaborate on name*. Hmmm...
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be cycling the legendary 54 miles from London (Clapham Common) to Brighton (Madeira Drive) on Sunday 17th June, start time approx 6am (TBC)...
Although I do not have a personal story to tell about a family member affected by heart disease, unfortunately like many others know people who have been. CHD, heart attacks, heart failures and strokes to name a few (Cardiovascular disease being their umbrella term), cause more than one in three of all deaths in the UK, accounting for more than 191,000 deaths each year at the estimated cost of £30 billion to the economy.
Each year the BHF saves thousands of lives thanks to their ground-breaking research and this is achieved with the help of both fundraising and donations alike.
I enjoy cycling and thought it'd be pretty selfish of me not to put this to good use once I started seeing campaigns for the BHF, if only everyone thought the same about all manner of charities the World would be a very different place, which is why I've got myself into gear and gone for it. Every little helps and all that.
There is currently a small team (growing day by day, this being day 1) of us entering and in time our group page will be added to this so those of you who wish to follow our fundraising progress and updates, can.
I completed this prestigious event with a group of 15 in 2003 (pictures in main page of when I was a little porkster) and will be aiming for a PB. I will not yet disclose the time in mind as one of my mentors recently said "NEVER, ever say it is in the bl**dy bag"...
The ride is fairly straightforward until you get to Devil's Dyke just before entering Brighton...local folklore explains the valley as the work of the Devil, and having just about made it up alive I would completely agree, albeit with a peice of my soul missing. But chilling out on the beach at the end is the best feeling as is knowing I could have potentially helped towards saving a life.
I am completely dedicated to this, training every night where possible and please ask that you donate as much or as little as you can...every penny to a charity counts and makes a huge difference. (Would love to say I accept payment in kind Benny, but sorry)...
So, in advance, a big hearty (boom boom) Thank You from me x ♥
