I am aiming to be the first female to swim across this particular stretch of the Bristol Channel. It is further than the English channel, it is 39 kilometres, 21 nautical miles or 23.5 land miles (depending on your preferred unit of measurement) at the shortest straight line distance. On top of that there are the tides that have to be dealt with, and the Bristol Channel has the second largest tidal range in the world (lucky me). So I figured, why not give it a go. I have been training hard and now just have to hope for good weather.

My nephew, the most gorgeous man in the world, has autism. He is obviously a very clever little boy but finds things that we would not struggle with very challenging. He has started to talk, which is amazing, he started later than most children and now we struggle to get him to stay quiet. However he still struggles with pronunciation and we often cannot understand what he is saying - imagine how frustrating that must be for him.  In group situations he behaves differently to others, he is going to have to work harder to be able to do the things that we take for granted.  I have no doubt that he will grow up to be a fantastic man who will be able to do anything he sets his mind to, he will just need some extra help to get there.  If I can help by raising money for research into and awareness of Autism then I will feel very honoured indeed.
