It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Siân & sixteen year old Nia are both fighting in the 13th International Tang Soo Do World Championships in Lisbon Portugal at the end of July. Siân had the crazy idea of walking there, to raise money for people like David who did so much for others, but sadly lost his life because he didn't really stand a chance against Pancreatic cancer. Siân and Nia will therefore be walking 400 miles and then competing the day after they arrive in Lisbon because they both want people with pancreatic cancer to have a fighting chance.

Pancreatic cancer has the worst prognosis of all cancers. It has the lowest survival rate, because it is a very difficult disease to diagnose and gets only 1% of research funds. The average life expectancy for this type of cancer is only 3-6 months. 22 people will lose their lives every day, only 18% of people will survive 1 year and only 3-4% up to 5 years. Breast cancer on the other hand gets 42% funding and 84% of cases survive at least 5 years.

They hope to raise £2000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK, so that they can help help to make a difference to others in future. The funds raised will help Pancreatic Cancer UK to raise awareness of the disease and its symptoms, so that it can hopefully be identified earlier, provide support and information to those affected and to help to fund more research so that survival rates may improve as much as those of other common cancers, which once had just as poor a prognosis as Pancreatic Cancer.
