The British Red Cross, a charity incorporated by Royal Charter 1908, helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.

Story

On 12 May, at 14:28, an earthquake hit the Sichuan province in China – taking the lives of more than 67,183 people (as of 26 May).

- Another 23,150 people remain missing in the quake zone, 360,058 people injured (as of 26 May)

- The Chinese authorities fear that the final death toll will exceed 80,000.

Almost 5 million people have been left homeless. Equivalent to roughly 8% of the population in the UK.

- More than 45.61 million people were affected in the deadly quake. Equivalent to roughly 75% of the population in the UK.

- In several areas a whole generation of children has been lost, as many schools collapsed.

As a Chinese, I want and need to do something for those in Sichuan. I am organising a £10 per person donation campaign. You are welcome to donate even more.

£10 is worth: 3 pints of beer? 1.5 burgers at the pub? 4 cups of coffee?

£10 for emergency aid for those in need, and to rebuild the desolate communities, has a worth which transcends comparison.

“Better to light one small candle, than to curse the darkness.”

I have called the Red Cross to confirm that all proceeds from this site will go towards the China Earthquake Appeal.
