Elliott's Cycling the North Coast 500

Cycling the North Coast 500 · 8 August 2021
The two of us very novice cyclers have decided to tackle the North Coast 500 in aid of raising money for Mind. The 516 mile lap of the Scottish highlands takes you through some of the most difficult terain, including the UK's toughest climb, the Bealach Na Ba. Throughout the 7 days we will average 74 miles per day, climbing well over the height of Everest, with our longest day of 106 miles coming on the final day.
This last year has really been an eye opener for many when it comes to mental health. Most people will have had their own battles in their own way and we're fortunate enough that it is becoming more openly spoken about within society.
However, we are definitely not at the finish line yet. Being fortunate enough to have a close group of male friends it is still very easy to tell that the stigma against Mens mental health has not disappeared. Guys are still reluctant to talk about how they are doing or issues they are going through due to the ideologies we have had set for ourselves.
Mind as a charity look to campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding within mental health. Local Minds provide help and support directly to those who need it most, whereas their professional training can help bring about real change, end discrimination and promote good mental health for all.
We know for many this may seem a simple challenge, though what we can assure you is for both of us this is most definitely not. Within the last year neither of us have cycled more than 70 miles in a day, and have only managed to cycle for 3 days consecutively. With a serious push we think we can manage it, but it's going to take a serious effort from us both.
Please support where you can and follow us on our journey around the famous route from Inverness Castle.
