Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you know, my Dad was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in September 2020 and sadly passed away from this terrible disease in June 2021.
To watch someone who was your hero as a child, lose the ability to do all the everyday movements that we all take for granted is truly heartbreaking. He bravely fought the disease from the very start and never lost his spirit or sense of humour even in the darkest times.
My Dad lost the ability to walk and do the things he loved only a few months after diagnosis, so, I have set myself a challenge of seeing just how much I can physically do.
There was a long list of things that my Dad never got to do so one of his main messages to everyone was "don't wait, just f***ing do it". Everyone thinks they have all the time in the world but as the last 12 months have showed me this isn't the case.
On 26 September 2021, I'll be taking part in the Outlaw X half distance triathlon, which is a 1.2 mile swim, 55 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. This will be a huge challenge for me and whilst I hoped my Dad would still be here to cheer me on from the sidelines, he'll be with me in spirit.
During my training, my arms are tired from swimming, legs stiff from biking and knees ache from running, I remember just how much my Dad would have done anything to have those aches and pains again from exercise that he loved to do and this spurs me on to keep moving.
I am raising funds for the Doddie Weir foundation as this was my Dad's wish. This charity helped my Dad when he needed it most, they supplied items to make my Dad's life easier and more comfortable as the MND progressed. Any donation big or small is hugely appreciated and goes directly to people with MND.
If I complete this mammoth challenge, I'll be aiming to complete the ultimate challenge of an Iron Man distance triathlon in July 2022, this consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 110 mile bike ride and 26.4 mile run. I'll be back with another Just Giving page for that ;)
