Story
The photos in My Gallery create a fitting tribute to my Dad who we sadly lost in January 2012. He was a kind, considerate man that would, without question, sacrifice himself for his family and others he cared for. We miss him terribly but we know that he would be the first to encourage us to live our lives to the full, embracing new challenges with positivity and dedication.
I personally take great comfort from the happy memories I have of my Dad and the time we spent together. I also take great strength from his courage, integrity and determination and feel compelled to do something in his memory that he would be proud of. Something that will help others who face similar circumstances both now and in the future.
It's for this reason, having said 'never again' 5 times already, that I've decided to take part in the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 21st April 2013, raising funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The Royal Marsden is a world-leading cancer centre, providing treatment and care for more than 40,000 cancer patients every year. It is also at the forefront of cancer research. Its work influences how all cancer patients are treated and cared for, not just in its own hospitals but all over the world.
Through the provision of compassionate care and treatment, The Royal Marsden helped my family spend as much time with my Dad as possible and also made sure that the quality of his life was maintained throughout his illness.
As a way of saying thank you and with your support, I want to raise as much money as I can for this tremendous charity. Your contributions mean that The Royal Marsden can keep making life better for people with cancer and keep striving towards a future without it, so please be generous and donate as much as you can.
Whilst he's no longer with us in body, my Dad is often with me in my thoughts and I know for sure he will be with me for every step of the Virgin London Marathon on April 21st 2013.
Please dig deep and donate securely now via this page. It will only take a moment but will make a difference to thousands of families.
Thank you for your kind support and generosity.
Simon
