Story
Well, having said that last year would be the last time I got on the bike and began the 300 mile ride from London to the Arc de Triomphe, I lied. Because here we are again.....
Two reasons. First, some of our ex servicemen and women still need our help. Whilst many , perhaps most, of those who have served in the Armed Forces have done well and made succesful adjustments to civilian life, sadly, this is not true for all. Some leave the Armed Forces with both physical and mental health problems. Others just find it difficult to readjust to life after their experiences in the Armed Forces, both positive and negative. As the "footprint" of the Armed Forces diminishes, and as memories of the Second World War and National Service fade, fewer and fewer of the rest of us have any contact with, or knowledge of, Service life.
And so the work of the Royal British Legion remains as important as ever. As someone who remains committed to understanding the nature of the problems that ex service personnel face, this is one small way in which I can help practically.
And the second reason? Last year my eldest son did the ride with me. Now my youngest insists on joining, so its back in the saddle, back to the training, and back to Paris. I hope.
Please do support the work of the Royal British Legion on behalf of our ex servicemen and women.
