Story
My nephew, Dexter, was diagnosed with Leukemia in November 2020. He has spent a lot of time at Sheffield's Children's Hospital where he has received amazing care for his illness.
When Dexter was first diagnosed, Dexter's mum and dad were told that the first 6 months would be the hardest. Dexter has been a hero through it all. Dexter has had countless hospital stays, chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, steroids, bone marrow tests and he lost the ability to walk.
Dexter has spent a lot of time on ward 6 and the oncology and hematology ward. The staff on these wards are amazing and have really cared for Dexter.
10 months on, Dexter is taking it all in his stride. He is learning to walk again and he's starting to go back to nursery and he will be starting school in September.
The treatment for Dexter is a long road and over the next few years he will need a lot more care from The Children's Hospital Charity.
Our family can't thank Sheffield's Children's Hospital enough. My small way of saying THANK YOU for taking such good care of our hero, Dexter, is by running the virtual London Marathon on 3 October 2021. I will be running 26.2 miles around Sheffield.
I know times have been really hard for a lot of families due to Covid but any donation would be greatly appreciated and would massively help Sheffield's Children's Hospital. A lot of the wards are outdated and old-fashioned. This money is vital to help them maintain their amazing services, redecorated the wards and look after sick children.
Finally, I can't write a post about Dexter without mentioning his big sister, Freya. This hasn't been easy for her either and she's been amazing. We are a very luck family to have Dexter and Freya in our family.
