The Stroke Association - Challenge Spinnaker Abseil · 26 June 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To my great surprise I have decided to abseil on  Saturday 26 June 2010 down from the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, being a drop of 350ft. from the tallest freestanding structure south of London.  Why I hear you all ask !!

A sign of a massive ongoing midlife crisis . Maybe, but I hope not .

To get a better view of the Isle of Wight. Certainly not.

A trial for next year's team bonding tax away day.  Could be but no.

No the reason is that it is for charity, the stroke association, being both a way of raising money and increasing stroke awareness.

Despite being the UK’s third biggest killer, stroke is preventable. For example 40% of strokes could be prevented by controlling blood pressure.   In this regard the Stroke Association is campaigning to :-

Ensure that Increasing awareness of the risk factors for stroke is a priority for both the Government and local health services

Ensure  stroke is treated as an emergency and making sure everyone who has a stroke is treated in a stroke unit.

Every stroke survivor has their move from hospital planned with all the rehabilitation and support services already in place.

Ensuring local health and social care services need to work better together to help people move smoothly from hospital into the community.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. As a start it would be good to raise £350, being £1 for each foot.

So if you have ever had the thought that it would be good to see me dangling from a rope, please dig deep and make a donation between now and 26 June. I am due to face the drop at 10 in the morning, so please come and watch if you can.  If there was ever an excuse to have a party afterwards this must be it !!!
