This year I turned 15. I’ve been part of Children of Fire since I was a toddler with a bottle of milk. No one even knew my age when I arrived; they had to work it out from X-rays.

I was rescued from my biological mother who set me alight and brought into a family home that stretched ever wider as it needed to, for always there were more children who were burned. One in three of us were burned on purpose. It is emotionally hard to understand why anyone could want to hurt a baby so badly, but people do.

I have come to terms with my scars. I’d like a better nose. I’d love to have two eyebrows. I’d like it if my left wrist could rotate, if all my fingers could bend and if they all had fingernails. But compared to so many other children, I’m really lucky.

There are tens of thousands of children who are badly burned each year. My adoptive Mum wants to build a hospital so that we can help lots more children than Children of Fire has helped so far.

First we need enough money to run a competition to get the best architects. And from that, to get the best design. And then the land. And then the hospital. It’s a huge dream to turn into something real.

I’m doing my bit. I am a London Fire Cadet now, even though I’m still at school. And I’ve promised my big brother Tristan that I’ll help look after our sister Dorah when I’m older.

Dorah was the first child that Mama helped. Without her, I would not have been helped nor the hundreds of other kids. We go through so much surgery and nearly all of us will be able to have jobs. Some are really clever, becoming things like lawyers and doctors. Some are plumbers or bakers. All of us know that we would not have made it this far without Children of Fire.
