Em's Slimming World Olympic Triathlon · 19 July 2020

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Freddie, Rachel and I will be completing the full triathlon (at a social distance of course!) while members of Slimming World Bucklebury and Southcote will be joining us along the way.  And those that can't jpin us will be completing their own activities at home or in their own communities.

After Slimming World conducted a survey of members with type 2 diabetes, we found that:
- 54% of those who have been Slimming World members for six months or more, and lost at least 10% of their body weight, said they believed they had reversed their condition.
- 60% were able to reduce or stop taking medication for type 2 diabetes
- 77% saw improvements in their blood glucose management
- 84% reported an improved quality of life
- 85% reported being more active

These findings are especially relevant in light of recent NHS research which shows that people with diabetes who contract Covid-19 face worryingly higher risks.

With this in mind and with our current 'It's a Kind of Magic' Body Magic Campaign I am super excited to let you know about Em's Olympic Triathlon Event on Sunday 19th July. For those that don't know, that's 1.5km swimming, 40km cycling, 10km running (0.9miles swim, 24.8miles bike, 6.2miles run).
