We raise funds to support local charities to help our local Merton community

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Social prescribing in merton has grown from strength to strength and we are really pleased with the progress in supporting clients, primary care and wider community.

Social prescribing identifies patients who have a non-medical problem and offers a non-medical solution. It is estimated that 20 % of patients who attend primary care have a non-medical cause to their problem. If we can link these people up with support in the community we can make a big difference to their lives.

We have some great results in Merton, as a result of Social prescribing, which has been shown to improve people's wellbeing.

Social prescribing helps people find voluntary sector services in their local community – charities which rely on donations – which has increased demand. The local NHS and Council is working to support the voluntary sector in Merton, but the charities delivering local services always need more help.

The key to success has been working collaboratively with public health, local voluntary sector, Merton CCG and other community providers. We have assembled a team from all the different stakeholders to take on Rough runner which is having its first event in Merton. What a perfect way to support our community .

The slogan 'don't medicalise .... socialise ' and 'don't medicalise.... exercise ' orignated in Merton . The concept being to consider alternative options before embarking on pills and investigations for medical symptoms. We will be wearing the T shirts at the event. Please feel free to donate here to Merton Giving which will redistribute the funds to local charities in Merton. Or have a look at the 'www.dontmedicalise.com' website to purchase merchandise . Any profits will also be redistributed back to voluntary sector.
