Story
Ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cause of death from cancer in women in the UK and the deadliest gynaecological cancer with over 7,000 women diagnosed each year. Survival rates for women with ovarian cancer remain low – more than 60% will die within five years of diagnosis and the UK continues to have one of the worst ovarian cancer survival rates in the developed world; up to 500 lives could be saved each year if the UK could match survival rates elsewhere in Europe .
Target Ovarian Cancer is the national ovarian cancer charity working to save lives and help women diagnosed live their lives to the full, wherever they are in the UK.
After having lost a dear friend and neighbour who was in her early Thirties to cancer, I have been committed to helping this charity achieve its ambitions over the last 3 years. The walk brings together families supporting women battling ovarian cancer, patients and fund-raisers. We are all going to walk it - now that Tristan is 2 and does not fit into his papoose any more, he will be walking (some of) it too.
The work of Target Ovarian Cancer is distinctive because:
We are the only charity to have a programme of work in ovarian cancer across the UK – in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
We are the only charity to reach out directly to women with an annual programme of face-to-face events across the UK
We are the only charity to tackle all of the biggest barriers to progress – late diagnosis, familial risk, no new treatments, lack of support
We are the leading campaigning charity for women with ovarian cancer
We hope you are able to support us in our fundraising efforts – any donation is welcome and valued!.
