We fund cancer appeals on Merseyside to improve the lives of cancer patients

After my lovely wife Jo was diagnosed with terminal, secondary breast cancer in December 2011, we decided to grab life with both hands and went on what turned out to be a journey of five wonderful years. Despite hundreds of hospital visits we crammed in so many memorable adventures, including many foreign trips and life enhancing experiences. I truly believe these memorable times kept Jo going for so much longer than she was expected to achieve, giving her a real zest for life.

We both came to the conclusion we wanted to try and put something back, to try and help others with similar health issues, even if only in a small way. So we came up with the idea of combining my passion for squash with a charitable cause. So Squashathon was born, which incredibly raised £7,000 with our first chaotic attempt in May 2013. This inspired us to do it again, until now five years later, and despite the tragedy of Jo finally losing her courageous and brave struggle, having very sadly passed away in March this year. The Squashathon Team have been extremely busy organising the 5th edition of our event, which is to be called Squashathon Jo, in her memory.

Therefore not long before Jo passed away, we both decided it was about time we took the giant leap to start our own Charity, having helped the Marina Dalglish Foundation for the first 4 years, having raised nearly £40,000. So now YOLO JO’S Charity is born and we are going to be Providing “Bucket List” events for people with cancer.

As we are a brand new Charity, we have not quite had the time get bank accounts and therefore a Just Giving Charity status set up in time for this years event, So Marina Dalglish has kindly offered to accept all your donations and then donate it back to YOLO JO's Charity once we are fully functioning.
