3 days, 250km, 5000m ascent, 5570m descent, 120 riders. Standard Chartered Rift Valley Odyssey presents the 4th RVO, Kenya's most challenging mountain bike adventure across the spectacular Great Rift Valley. This extreme mountain bike race will take place over 3 days and 250 km, from 20 – 22 September 2013. The Standard Chartered Rift Valley Odyssey traverses high altitude forests on both eastern and western escarpments of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, crossing challenging terrain along foot paths, forest trails, bush trails, down exhilarating descents, up arduous ascents (peak race altitude is 2900m), across pristine wilderness and open savannah teaming with plains game with absolutely no course markings . Each team must depend upon their GPS for navigation. The entry list for 2013 is led by the Standard Chartered Team of David Kinjah / Max Knox. David Kinjah is the undisputed Kenya National Champion and cycling mentor to Chris Froome (winner of Tour de France 2013). Max Knox is the reigning South African National Champion and an aggressive challenger in the World Championship series. They will be supported by their Standard Chartered Team members of Davidson Kamau / Joseph Kuria and Robin Bairstow / Dana Botha. In total 100 competitors have entered, with 37 international entrants representing 12 different countries, the most travelled will be a competitor from New Zealand.
