Save a sight on World Sight Day
Blindness can really limit the potential, opportunities and happiness of individuals. It can prevent them from attending school, securing meaningful employment and living fully independent lives.
Globally, there are an estimated 36 million blind people and a further 217 million people suffering from moderate or severe visual impairment.
The staggering fact is that in 4 out of 5 cases, visual impairment can prevented or cured. That means that 80 per cent of people living with visual impairment don’t have to. By simple medical interventions, we can change the lives of 80 per cent of the visually impaired and enable them to experience richer, happier and more productive existences.
That’s what Seeing is Believing is all about. We want to tackle avoidable blindness, so we can improve lives and livelihoods.
A small donation can realise massive returns, particularly because Standard Chartered Bank matches all donations dollar for dollar.
Consider that just £64 could help five children see clearly through eye tests and spectacles. £64 could pay for training of one eye care worker, so that members in his or her community can see again.
