2011 L.A Marathon · 20 March 2011
Thank you for takng the time to visit my Just Giving page.
On the 2nd November 2010 my dear friend Robert Stratton lost his brave fight with Esophageal Cancer. Witnessing the cruel and debilitating effects of late stage cancer for the first time has had a very pronounced effect on my life. Bob's son Richard and I wanted to do something not only in memory of his late father but also hopefully raise whatever we can for what is a very worthy cause. With Richard moving to the USA in the new year we decided to run the LA marathon which takes place on 20th March 2011. We are hoping to raise as much as we can for Arthur Rank hospice care who provide end of life palliative care for cancer sufferers. This is my first ever marathon and is something i've always wanted to achieve but never found the motivation, until now, to actually realise. The last weeks of Bob's life were spent in the care of Arthur Rank hospice Cambridge who took great care to make sure that his final weeks with us were as comfortable as possible. The staff are truly extraordinary human beings and do an amazing job faced with such adversity every day of their working life, yet somehow they always manage a smile and make you feel that nothing is too much trouble.
Any donation you are kind enough to make, however large or small, will make a difference and would mean a great deal to me.
Steve
